TOWN Hall reached their first county cup final in 39 years with a fully- deserved Norfolk Primary Cup victory over a sporting Thetford Rovers Reserve side at Green Lane.

The final is due to be played on Friday, April 9 at Dereham Town's Aldiss Park against Old Hunstanton who beat Castle Acre Swifts 3-2 after extra tme. Hall are the only Great Yarmouth side to reach a county cup final this season.

Manager Kevin Johnson sprung the first surprise of the day by opting to keep top scorer Matty Anderson in reserve on the bench. Hall proceeded to get off to the worst possible start, conceding in the first goal after 40 seconds.

However, this proved to be as good as it got for the opposition as Hall bossed the game for the remaining 89 minutes. The only blot was Hall's inability to convert numerous chances that their possession and approach play deserved.

Half-time came and they were still one goal adrift, with the message from the management “don't panic”.

Early in the second half, with Beckett skying a clear-cut opening and midfield dynamo Keith Vincent being withdrawn through injury - up to that point probably Hall's best player -

many may have thought it was going to be one of those days.

However, with top scorer Anderson on the pitch and a change of formation Hall raised their game.

On 55 minutes Rob Ripkey held off two Thetford defenders to fire home Hall's much overdue equaliser and there was only going to be one winner.

Ten minutes later good work down the right from Shane Kingdon delivered a pin-point cross for Anderson to pick his spot with a header for his 27th goal of the season. With fresh legs introduced, Hall stayed dominant.

The icing on the cake came five minutes from time with Anderson, creating panic in the Thetford defence, turning provider for Ripkey to tap home from close range.

There had been superb effort and determination from all 14 players.

With Hall not even at the halfway stage with their league games, thoughts must turn to the six league games before the final, starting tomorrow at Hopton. Jonno will be in touch regarding arrangements.

Team v Thetford Rovers Reserves: Marshall, Nolan, Locke(B), Locke (K), Grant, Ripkey, Kingdon (Smith), Vincent (Anderson), Yaxley, Thompson (Tuffrey), Beckett.
