Archant Norfolk 2016

Halvergate made it two wins from two games in Norfolk League Division Two East following a solid performance at home to Sprowston B on Saturday.

Skipper Perry Kelf won the toss and decided to bat on a cool and overcast afternoon and this decision was rewarded with a strong start.

Michael Handley and James Howley (31) put on 103 for the first wicket in 24 overs. Handley went on to make an excellent 73 with support from Ross Sanders (21), Danny Cook (11), Kelf (7) and Tom Daynes (16), with the score reaching 159 for five off 37 overs.

Halvergate hoped for a score of over 200 but the runs slowed up and with Stuart Willimott (5), Adam Pitchers (4) Graham Morris (1 not out) and Sam Utting (4) the innings ended on 191 for nine off 45 overs. Sprowston’s Yallop ended with four wickets for 38 runs.

After an excellent tea Sprowston started solidly, with Kerkham (19) and Hampson (25) helping them to 43 for one in 17 overs. Two wickets in the 19th and another in each of the 20th, 23rd and 25th put Halvergate in control with Sprowston at 73 for six, but some resistance from Atkins (15), Ollerton (19), Randall (8) and Doy (24) moved them through the hundred mark and up to 130 before Halvergate claimed the final wicket in the 39th over.

For Halvergate Danny Cook took three for 19, Adam Pitchers nought for 19, Tom Daynes one for 22, Stuart Willimott two for 44, Graham Harrop two for 17 and Sam Utting one for two. There were two catches and a stumping for Ross Sanders, catches for Graham Morris, James Howley, Adam Pitchers and Tom Daynes and a run out for Adam Pitchers. A good performance saw Halvergate return 25 league points against Sprowston’s seven.

On Saturday Halvergate travel to Blundeston & Somerleyton.

In Division One Great Yarmouth bounced back from an opening day defeat when they won at Sandringham. The visitors made 163-9 and that proved more than enough as Sandringham were bowled out for 130. Steve Hak made 66 while Jake Barton took 4-34 for the hosts.

Winterton beat Swardeston B by 56 runs in Division Three of the Norfolk Alliance. They made 229-9 in their 45 overs (Ryan Edmonds 61) and then bowled their visitors out for 173, with Danny Snowling taking 5-38.

They travel to Fakenham A tomorrow.
