CRICKET: In Division Eight of the Norfolk Cricket League, Blundeston A entertained Gillngham at the Somerleyton Oval on July 9 and beat a side which had eight straight wins under their belts, T Mobbs (four for 18) completing a delayed hat-trick.

Blundeston lost Mobbs and R Milham early. K Shields (23), M Pandya (12), P Mane (34) and D Miller (25) all put partnerships together to pull the innings round with careful batting and punishing the rare bad ball. At 131 all out on the damp wicket, Blundeston A felt just short of their target.

After tea, Gillingham looked comfortable until P Mane (2-17) made the breakthrough, getting L Smith.

Mobbs replaced R Milham (1-15) after an excellent spell and Mobbs opened with a poor ball which was returned for a simple caught and bowled to remove dangerman T Hoare. This gave Mobbs a following-on hat-trick after his two wickets with the last two deliveries against Martham the previous week.

P Mane then took the previous week’s century maker, T Aldridge, to put Blundeston in the driving seat.

Movement and bounce from Mobbs saw the end of the middle order. The introduction of J Able (2-13) brought the visitors’ innings to a swift close on 69 for a surprise home win and 23 points.
