Pub on the Shrubs Yarmouth Saturday League

It was a case of one through, one out and two to try again this week as the last 16 of the Norfolk Junior and Primary Cup competitions now get to the serious stage with showpiece finals now on the horizon. Starting on the Norfolk Junior Cup and Haven Bridge United missed a golden chance to reach the quarter finals as they were held against experienced Anglian Combination outfit Mundford 0-0 on the Beaconsfield as the game went to extra time it became obvious that the light would not let play continue and the match was abandoned to be replayed this week. With the replay at Mundford, Haven Bridge must do things the hard way but are the Norfolk Primary Cup holders. Catfield meanwhile made much lighter work of Swaffham Reserves winning 6-0 at home and booking a January quarter final. Over in the Norfolk Primary Cup the league has one representative left this season as Prostar Windows faced a tough Discovery Royals outfit on the Magdalen who sat top of the league. Despite giving it a real go the home side bowed out to focus on domestic competitions which they are doing well in. Caister A though now are the league’s last hope of keeping the silverware after Haven’s success last season. They faced a match with Gayton Reserves at Allendale at the match went all the way to extra time with it finishing 2-2. Caister will i’m sure fancy there chances in the return and best of luck to Matt Fincham and his side this week.

On to domestic issues and in Division 1 GY International earned there first point in a good 2-2 draw with a good footballing side in Caister Roma on the Beaco. The result leaves Caister Roma fourth while International move above Bohemians. MK Shrubs though are up to second after a comprehensive 6-0 win at South Yarmouth who though have adapted well first season in the top flight. Meanwhile in the League cup Albion boosted there chances of a semi final spot with a 4-2 win over Bohemians who it now seems is looking more unlikely now to qualify. Over in Division Two and MK Shrubs Reserves missed a superb chance to stake a title claim as they went down 4-3 at new boys Grosvenor Casino who have put a small run together over the last few weeks. Filby & Runham are certainly an improved side this season and they have already beaten last seasons points tally. This time they won 5-3 at Caister Roma Reserves so well done to Ross Stantons side. Finally Wanderers extended there lead at the top of the table with a rout of Martham A who continue to prop up the table.

Best of luck to Haven Bridge and Caister this week. Please note that with an expected weather issue that all clubs are asked to call off in the correct manner as per the rule books - Ryan Starkey.
