Great Yarmouth Cycling Club held their first event of the year, a 50-mile reliability ride. The route went north along the coast road to Lessingham, then over to Dilham and the return was via Filby. The riders had met outside the old sponsor's shop, Lawford's Cycles, in Northgate Street. The riders set off in three groups; the first set off at 8.30am; next to leave at 9am was the intermediate group, pictured, followed by the fast group at 9.30 am. In total, 56 club members rode the event. Afterwards, the club stopped at the King's Arms for some well deserved post-ride refreshments. Photo: Anthony Field

Diss Cycling Club’s first 10-mile time trial of the season saw a large number of riders attend. The 40 spaces available were soon filled up, and some riders were turned away but fortunately five Great Yarmouth Cycling Club riders were able to compete.

Conditions were dry but breezy and there was a chill in the air.

Jan Smith and James Soanes were first off competing as a 2-up and they completed the course in 30.10. Paul Hastings and Ronnie Bean finished in 35.04 and 33.02 respectively while the fastest Yarmouth rider of the night was Jonny Hawes. Christening his new frame, he came home in 23.57.

The fopllowing weekend Jenny Anderson headed over to tackle King’s Lynn CC’s 25-mile time trial. Although it was a tough course, she succeeded in finishing in 1:10.38. Jan Smith travelled to Earsham to try her hand at Godric CC’s first 10 and finished in 28.09. She also raced in Diss 25-mile Medium Gear League and in a strong wind finished in 1:22.19.
