Gorleston Golf Club’s men played for the Ken Gough Trophy which is a fourball betterball bogey competition.

This year’s winners were Darren Hellary and Chris Duffy who beat the course seven up, one hole ahead of John Cater and Jamie Gough in second place.

In midweek it was time for the second leg of One Eyed Birdie Competition between the senior men and senior ladies. This is always a hard-fought event and the overall winners this year were the lady captain’s team who triumphed five up over the two legs.

The ladies thwn played an EGU and Divisional Medal competition with the following results: Division One: Heather Harvey 74, Division Two: Victoria Watson 77 and Division 3: Rosemary Hodgkin 77.

Gorleston Golf Club Professional Duncan Abbot held his annual golf day on Saturday which was a well-attended event. Throughout the year pairs of players have the opportunity to play better ball matchplay against the club captain and the professional and the results of these matches are reflected in the final event.

This year’s winners were the team of Lee Chapmen and Matthew Alp with a great score of 45 points plus the four points carried forward. In second place were Daniel Crosby and Ben Leuty with 40 points plus four points.

Sunday’s Monthly Medal and Captain’s Trophy competition was won by Robert Cooper with an excellent 67 from Kasey Bailey (68). Division Two winner was Dean Chilvers (70) with Nigel Stone second on 73. The Division Three winner was Graham Tovey with a superb 65 from Peter Tinsley in second place with 69.

The ladies played a fun Waltz competition with teams of three scoring on one, two and three holes throughout the round. Winners on the day were the team of Sue Smith, Vera Woolnough and Jackie Walsh with 66 points from Heather Harvey, Kim Potter and Sheila Sterry on 65 points.

The seniors’ section played for the Dennis Orton Cup which is a Stableford competition and was won by Colin Laws with 39 points on countback from Tony McCarthy.

The Ladies’ Monthly Stableford competition was won in Division One by Victoria Watson (36) and in Division Two by Jenny Watson with 36 on countback from Phillipa Price.
