Hemsby welcomed Norwich CEYMS Reserves to a bitterly cold Waters Lane on Saturday and once again were hit by a couple of late call-offs and suffered a further blow as Kyle Simnett failed to make it in time.

The Reserves’ match was off so Louis Skoyles and Tom Lardner were called up to help out and Josh Seago had come down to watch, so he was asked to complete the 14.

For the first 20 minutes the home side played well at times. Russell Marriott will feel he should have done better after a great run into the area but hit his effort straight at the keeper. Joe Kenny couldn’t get a shot away after being picked out brilliantly by Brad Burnett and then from their first real attack CEYMS saw a well struck effort beat Rui Goncalves but the ball bounced favourably away off the woodwork.

A minute later the home side broke the deadlock as Kenny linked up well with Lewis Stebbings and his lay-off was hit home with venom from 20 yards out by Stebbings.

A few minutes later Grant Osben made his way into the area after beating three players and had the option of trying to pick someone out or taking a chance from a tight angle, but the keeper saved as he chose the latter.

From the resulting corner Shannon Deeks connected with a very good header that crashed off the bar and from the rebound the ball bobbled around, with Deeks unable to get a proper connection.

As in many other games this season missed chances came back to haunt Hemsby when an error allowed a CEYMS striker a free shot and he took his chance well. With the half-time whistle about to sound Kenny’s good run into the area was halted by a push and Jonathon Peirce dispatched the penalty emphatically to give Hemsby a 2-1 lead.

In the 50th minute a sloppy pass allowed the visitors time to pick out a good run by their striker and once again he finished well to level. The game became end to end with no real chances being created until the last 10 minutes when a series of home mistakes allowed CEYMS to score three times.

Hemsby really should have been cruising before their opponents scored but ended up coming away with nothing to show for all their efforts. The Hemsby Sports and Social Club man of the match was Shannon Deeks.

Hemsby travel to Blofield Reserves tomorrow.
