High fives for Caister on Norfolk Senior Cup debut
Caister 5 Sheringham 2
In-form Caister marked their first foray into the Norfolk Senior Cup 3rd round by disposing of higher-ranked opposition in convincing style.
The visitors were Sheringham from the Anglian Combination Premier League who had won their previous two games under new management.
Caister were buoyed by the news that they had been announced as the Anglian Combination’s senior team of the month and the fact they had beaten Wroxham Reserves of Premier status the previous week.
Both sides had chances to open the scoring in the first 15 minutes. For Caister Hack and Anton Ward had great chances, a goal was disallowed for offside and the Sheringham bar was struck twice one of which was a Danny Heller free kick from 30 yards out and then Sheringham had a few gilt-edged chances to take the lead.
Caister breathed a sigh of relief and the in-form Danny Heller struck a fantastic volley across the Sheringham keeper from 15 yards out as Caister finally broke the deadlock. Caister’s front four consisting of the Ward brothers, Heller and Hack again were tormenting an experienced back line and their movement was just too much for Sheringham to cope with. Heller grabbed his and Caister’s second with another excellent goal as he twisted past two players he picked his spot with a slotted effort from 20 yards.
Caister skipper Mark Blake picked out Hack with a searching pass from left back.

Hack used his pace and strength to hold off the last defender, he rounded the keeper and turn his shot back in from an acute angle.
Sheringham got a goal back on 35 minutes with a well taken free kick from 20 yards.
Caister restored the three-goal cushion when a quick free kick created a chance for Garrett Ward who was making his return to the team after a three-game suspension. Ward ran on to the pass and finished superbly with a trademark goal.
Sheringham responded with a much-improved second half. On 70 minutes Sheringham scored a second to make it 4-2 with a header from a corner.
Quick breaks set free Anton Ward who had a goal disallowed for offside then his brother Garrett wasted a one on one chance as he got caught in two minds with time to spare and scooped his shot wide.
Garrett quickly made amends as he outpaced the last defender and smashed his shot low into the net.
