GREAT Yarmouth racecourse stages a highly competitive 8-race card today, the first part of its two-day May meeting which continues tomorrow (Friday).

Finding winners will be anything but easy although punters should get off to a good start in the first race, over six furlongs, at 2.10pm.

Trainer Clive Brittain's Niran, a winner of its only previous start at Newmarket 12 days ago, should be odds on to land the spoils here, partnered by the in-form Seb Sanders.

Richard Mullen is a jockey to keep a close eye on at Great Yarmouth and he could add to his tally of winners at the seaside course when riding two-year-old grey gelding Scilly Breeze, out of Linamix, for trainer Rae Guest in the 2.40, again over six furlongs in the Great Yarmouth Advertiser Selling Stakes.

I take two improving horses to battle it out over a mile and three furlongs in the 3.10. Papyrian, trained by William Jarvis and riden by five-pound claimer Louis-Phillippe Beuzelin was third over a mile at Great Yarmouth 17 days ago while Jamie Spencer rides the Jane Chappel-Hyam trained Big Bay, third three weeks ago on the all-weather at Kempton. There should be little between them but I take Papyrian to land the spoils.

Beuzelin could be on course for a quick double for in the 3.40 race again over a mile and three furlongs, he partners Sir Michael Stoute's Class is Class. The three-year-old Montjeu colt will be a very short price but should get his nose in front.

The seven furlong sprint at 4.10 is another highly competitive affair. Crystallize is penalised six pounds for a recent win which might make it tough to clock up a double and leave the way open for others. Saleem Golan rides Itsher for Steve Williams who has a good track record but I would take a chance on the around 8-1shot Almazaar. Trained by John Dunlop, Almazaar, fifth over a mile at Warwick last time out, could make it a double for jockey Richard Mullen.

Sixteen are declared for the six-furlong sprint at 4.40 where I fancy Plummage, ridden by Kirsty Milczarek to take the honours. Second 10 days ago at Wolverhampton, Plummage can win at the expense of Gracie's Gift who won last time out at Southwell.

The EDP Handicap at 5.10 over a mile and three furlongs could go the way of apprentice Simon Pearce, claiming seven pounds on Granary Girl while the final event, over a mile and two could see Cwm Rhondda, a winner at the last Great Yarmouth meeting, clock up a nice double. But the would-be favourite has gone up in the weights after that last win and may face key rivals in Mystic Art and Sir Haydn.
