Acle 3 Hempnall 1

Acle took up the running in the Sterry Cup race for the first time this season with a convincing win over Hempnall.

Acle dominated much of the game despite allowing the visitors to equalise before half-time when a slack period of Acle play allowed Haynes to launch a “hit and hope” volley that caught Scott Foreman off his line, the ball dipping under the bar.

Adam Hipperson caused havoc for the visiting defenders after eight minutes when he robbed Ramsey of the ball, went round two defenders and pinpointed a centre that picked out Ian Morgan.

Enjoying the freedom of Bridewell Lane, he headed past the helpless Aaron Bunn in Hempnall’s goal. Scott Foreman was barely tested although Willis had one good chance that he slid wide of the target.

Early in the second-half Acle went ahead when, under pressure from Ian Morgan, Addison could only put through his own goal after Hipperson had again tormented the visiting defenders.

With the hosts experiencing a rich vein of form with goals coming from all areas of the park it was no surprise when Acle went further ahead.

Matthew Cobb fouled Morgan some twenty-five yards out and Hipperson sent a peach of a free-kick round the wall and inside the near post for a perfect response.

With the woodwork rescuing the visitors on several occasions and Bunn in Hempnall’s goal working over-time it was a matter of how many but the hosts stuck on three - Robin Tungate.
