Historic fixture for L&Y rugby team

RUGBY: Lowestoft and Yarmouth entertain Norwich at Gunton Park for the first time in the club’s history at league level tomorrow.

Norwich, who over the last few seasons have found life difficult and have dropped through the leagues, will be looking to bounce back from an opening-day defeat away at Wanstead.

Norwich head coach Andy Warnes will be keen for his side to put in a performance at his old club. Lowestoft have made three changes to the squad that beat Wisbech last week, with new signing Dave Palmer getting a start on the wing after some strong performances in the seconds and at training.

Myles McAlone is welcomed back to partner Kris Nelson in the centre and Kyle Hallam earns a spot on the bench after impressing at training.

Lowestoft have made no changes to the forwards after a fantastic performance at Wisbech. The back row of Steve Powles, Steve Adams and captain Marc Thomas should be a handful for most sides this year.

Director of rugby Scott Nelson said: “I was quite shocked at how well the forwards performed Saturday, especially with new combinations in place, it is the best I have seen our line-out in a long time.

“Stevie Adams put in a man of the match performance in only his first game on the flank and our front five looked as mobile as I’ve ever seen them, I have preached consistency all summer and that is what I will be looking for week in, week out.

“There is obviously still a lot that needs doing on the training paddock, but with the numbers and morale high I’m sure we can perform well this season.”
