Ipswich IV 0, Gorleston 10

SIMON Long scored six for Gorleston's a very strong travelling hockey squad.

Gorleston started very brightly with Richard Pallent pulling the strings in the heart of midfield. Majority possession soon saw Mark Vaudin break down the right wing and cut into the D, his cross/shot deflected to give Gorleston an early lead.

Gorleston camped outside the Ipswich 25-yard line and were awarded several short corners. With the direct shot not working, Gorleston reverted to their new option which saw Long ghost in on the far post and slip the ball past the stranded keeper.

Early second half Long popped up again to score after good approach play by Gorleston.

With the returning Monty Raymond and Malcolm Berry rotating at left wing, Gorleston found space for Jamie Clarkson to pick his spot to score.

Barnaby King pulled off a series of stunning saves to deny Ipswich which spurred Gorleston on, and with the platform of Martyn Vaudin and Herman Chung, they released Jason Austin whose thunderous shot trickled under the Ipswich keeper.

Gorleston found another gear with some very slick play and Long scored three goals in quick succession. Jamie Higginbotham scored after picking the ball out the air and slotted it calmly past the Ipswich keeper.

Gorleston brought on another forward in Russ Crawford but his game did not last long when he was struck on the elbow by a stray shot. With the clock running down, Long was the fastest to react to a cross and scored his sixth goal of the game.

Gorleston saw a very good performance from every member of the team.
