Great Yarmouth and District Football League

As the league season reaches its penultimate week, another promotion was clinched on Saturday as Norfolk and Chance were confirmed as runners-up in Division Two, gaining promotion to the top flight.

They defeated GY United 1-0 at Mill Lane, which was enough to send Steve Brown's side up in only their second season in the league.

Caister United A, on the back of winning the Burgess Cup, booked a second cup final of the season in the Percy Nockolds Trophy hen they defeated Bohemians again.

Following a 3-3 draw after 90 minutes, and amid controversy, the game went straight to penalties in fading light and Caister sealed their place 5-4.

They will face GY United, who defeated first division Hemsby Reserves by a single goal at Gorleston rec.

On Saturday, Caister United A defeated South Yarmouth 3-2 at Halvergate, but this was not enough, as Norfolk and Chance's win means Caister will have to settle for no better than third.

Carpathians, meanwhile, took the honours in the game with Prostar Windows, winning 1-0.

MK United Reserves, who have had mixed fortunes in previous weeks, put in a better display to defeat a good Feathers side 4-1.

In Division One, the league title is far from settled and could well come down to the clash between MK United and Catfield on May 12 at Gorleston rec.

But this week both top teams were inactive from league duties, although in midweek Catfield did add the League Cup to the Wiltshire Cup by defeating a good Lacon Arms side 3-1 at the Wellesley.

Lacon Arms were trying to bounce back from that defeat by taking on GY International, with Weller making his first appearance of the season for Lacon Arms. However, the visitors took the points, as Lacons did everything but score.

Shrublands defeated Hemsby Reserves 2-1 on the common in a very spirited match. Albion meanwhile took the points against Reedham at Burgh Castle.

The league would like to still hear from any new or existing clubs who are interested in entering next season.

Application forms can be obtained by calling the fixtures secretary Ryan Starkey on 01493 602345.

Thanks to the clubs who have already shown an interest in applying for next season.
