WITH Acle Ladies B team coming up into the top division this season, the first game of the campaign had to be against the Ladies A team.

WITH Acle Ladies B team coming up into the top division this season, the first game of the campaign had to be against the Ladies A team.

Jill Saunders, Jean Cossey and Marie Barker for the A team played Ada Sumpter, Dawn Horne and Margaret Shields and after seven ends Marie was 10-5 up, but a fight back ensued and playing the final end Marie was 10-12 down. Two shots on this end gave a 12-12 draw.

Margaret Arnold, Molly Auld and Marion Himpleman came up against Anne Drury's block and at five ends it was 5-2, 13-3 at 10 and finished 14-6. Joy Pearson, Lillian Barber and Mel Haylett played Bing Smith's block with Mel's girls going 11-2 up at five ends, 15-6 at 10 and finishing 17-9. Elaine Cole's block played Anita Nelson, Shirley Genery and Pat Pegram with Elaine's block going 4-6 down at five ends, 8-11 at 10 and finishing 9-12.

Result 52-39 (6.5-1.5 points) in favour of the A team.

The Men's A team started their campaign away at The Dell, not the easiest place to begin.

Jamie Howlett, Wyn Willimott, Simon Elliott and Tim Stone were 6-8 at eight ends, scored a seven on the eighth and never looked back to be 21-13 at 15 and win 26-17.

Robin Norman's rink went 7-2 up at seven ends 10-7 at 12 then 13 each at 16. It went to a grandstand finish 16 each playing the final end, and they lost 16-17.

Lewis Moore's rink dropped a five on the seventh to go 4-14 down and dropped another five on the 15th to go 9-23, won the last five ends but lost 19-25.

Tony Dunton's rink were seven each at seven ends, dropped a five on the10th to go 8-13 down, came back to 14-19 at 16 ends but only scored one more shot and lost 15-29. Result 76-88 (1-6).

The Men's B team at home to Pentney who came down from the top division this season and were expected to be difficult to beat.

Ron Taylor, Mick Crow, Alan Rowsell and Les Smith were seven each at eight ends but after scoring a five on the 13th end looked in charge.

But after dropping two fours the game was tight at 23-21 at 18 ends. They scored a five on the 20th and won 32-21.

Johnstone Mackie, Sid Siely Stanley Ward and Bimbo Meeks scored a five on the10th to go 14-6 up and also looked on for an easy win, but after being 18-10 on 14 were 18-16 after 18.

They went on to win the last three ends and finished 26-16.

Jim Fruin, Eric Crouch, Barney Wymer and Ken Copeman were 5-4 at seven ends, scored a five on the 11th to go 14-7 up, scored a four on the 17th to lead 29-8 and won 32-12.

Ivan Borrett's rink were seven each at seven, dropped a five on the 10th to go 9-14 and were 11-22 at 15 ends, won the last six ends and in a very tight final end lost 20-22.

Result 110-71 (6-1).

Lothingland League

The end of season dinner and presentation night at the Cliff Hotel saw a sell-out crowd of 133.

After an excellent meal the chairman, Roger Farrow, thanked everyone who had helped to make it such a successful season with special thanks to Mrs Harrison for her support of the Bob Whittley Memorial Shield and the Bradwell Bowls Club.

This was followed by the presentations.

Joyce Waplington was presented with a bouquet by the secretary's wife Shirley Chapman for her excellent work for the Sunfield Club. She has decided to call it a day, having done the secretary's job for 20 years.

The league competition winners were: Star Hotel Triples - D Watts, M Watts, J Sargent. Ladies' Pairs J Willeard and L Willeard. Lothingland Pairs - I Emmerson and K Elliston. Ladies' Singles - J Willeard. Men's singles - K Spink. Bob Whittley Memorial Shield - Blundeston. League Champions - Oulton Broad.

A raffle for league funds raised £155. The Cliff resident DJ provided excellent music to complete a great night.

The general meeting is on Monday, February 15 at the Cliff Hotel.

Gt Yarmouth Ladies Bowls

THE Blue team made a poor start against Norfolk BC at the beginning of the new indoor season.

Playing at Norfolk Bowls Club, they finished with a score of 27-77.

One block won and three lost, making it 7-1 points to NBC.

J Carter, P George and J Rose were the winning rink and led until the ninth end when they were overtaken 8-9, but managed to score six shots to two against over the last three ends, making a win of 14-11.

H Farrow, B Taylor and T Lewis lost 5-17; M Surplice, M Symonds and M Clark lost 3-20; W Ellison, M Oram and J Saunders lost 5-29.
