The East Norfolk Sixth Form College women's football team confirmed their position as champions this week in the East of England League (Division One), beating off some very strong colleges from across the East region. The region comprises six counties, as far afield as Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.

The East Norfolk girls finished the season with a record of 10 games played, nine of which resulted in wins with just the single loss. The girls ended the season with a goal difference of +43, averaging six goals every game, with Jade Spooner leading the way.

Jade, who is in her first year at college, has not only become the team's top scorer but also the East League's top scorer with 17, especially impressive as she missed a few games in the middle of the season.

The East Norfolk girls have trained more and had more games than any other team in the college this year, working incredibly hard for their success.

The girls can now look forward to their East of England Plate final against Havering College, to see if they can complete the double and progress to the quarter-finals of the national competition.

College Principal, Laurie Poulson, said: “A special word should go to the team coach, Chris Duffy, who took over responsibility for the team this year.

“To win the league in your first season is a great credit to the coach as well as to the team.”
