THERE are two opportunities to go to the races at Great Yarmouth during June. First up is an afternoon fixture next Thursday (June 11) and then it's evening racing on Tuesday, June 16.

Racing is under way at 2.20pm on Thursday, while it's a 6pm start five days later when the finale is at 9pm.

Well done to the punter who prospered at the two-day spring meeting last week when he backed a 100-1 horse at 50 each way. That meant he walked off with 6,000 in winnings. Mind, backing 100-1 shots is usually a one-way street to the poor house!

Lowther was the horse in question and created more than a few talking points on an afternoon when otherwise the favourites were in control, including Cwm Rhondda, a horse that repeated her success of a week earlier at the racecourse.

Wadaat is expected to be a long-priced fancy for today's fillies' classic at Epsom Downs. Those people who like to follow “Great Yarmouth form” in The Oaks will be interested in her. She won a maiden race at the racecourse in April and followed that up by finishing as runner-up in the Italian Oaks a fortnight ago.

No such local interest in the derby tomorrow which is expected to be dominated by Irish-trained horses.
