Inspired by a four-hour course on the Saturday with England karate coach Wayne Otto, Phoenix Karate students Charlotte Fisher and Sophie Stephenson dominated the girls' Kumite at the British Karate Association's Championships in Leigh, Greater Manchester on Sunday.
There was a gold medal for Charlotte, who beat Sophie in the girls' open weight section by two points with a strong Chudan kick. Both girls took some knocks on the way to the final, but were determined to make it a Phoenix one-two and with great strength of mind they succeeded.
Accompanying the girls for the weekend was coach Vivianne Trorey 2nd Dan who was delighted with the way the girls adapted techniques shown by
Otto to their advantage.
Charlotte and Sophie train with Phoenix Karate at their classes in Acle, Martham, Caister, Gorleston, Great Yarmouth, Hopton, Oulton Broad, Beccles and Halesworth. Phone Charlie or Vivianne on 01502 730171 or 07895 550168 for details.
