PHOENIX Karate Schools' Charlotte Fisher and Sophie Stephenson travelled to Edinburgh at the weekend to represent the Amateur Martial Association at the Scottish International Championships. Accompanied by coach Vivianne Trorey 2nd Dan, they joined other members of the AMA squad in an excellent two-day tournament.

The squad collected 21 medals, four gold, nine silver and eight bronze. Sophie started her campaign with a great fight, winning 8-0, six of those scored with two fantastic jodan (head) kicks. She battled through to the semi-finals where she lost narrowly to the eventual winner.

Charlotte was unsuccessful in her individual events, but accompanied by Sophie and squad members Danielle and Libby reached the final in the 14 to 15-year-old girls' team event. Facing an on-form Scottish team they all put up an exceptional fight, but could not contain defeat and had to settle for the silver medals.

Vivianne said: “Once again the girls fought well, the opposition were first class and it was good experience for them. The AMA's chief coach Peter Allen has given both girls advice on where to improve their techniques before next weekend's EKF National Championships at Ponds Forge.”
