Latia Suen of the Phoenix Karate Schools travelled to Ipswich to compete in the East Anglian Open Karate Championships, where she represented her club and the Amateur Martial Association of which she is a national squad member.

Her mother Nikki, who is one of her coaches and a Phoenix instructor, said “Latia fought like the champion she is. She also gained a lot of respect from some of the other competitors and officials, when, because there was nobody else in her section - the girls' black belt 4ft 8in to 5ft 2in - for her to fight, rather than accept the trophy for nothing, Latia decided to refuse it and move up to the next section. Latia was a lot smaller, but put all her experience to good use and won, taking a well-deserved trophy home to add to her growing collection of trophies and medals.”
