The Royal Navy ABA schools championship finals were held at Brentwood where Great Yarmouth Kingfisher ABC's Henri Potter, 13, lost on points in a hard, close-fought 36kg final with Andrew Cain of Everton Red Triangle Boxing club.

Cain, the shorter of the two boxers, came with a record of 11 wins out of 12. Potter knew what to expect and met his opponent with straight punches as Cain crowded in, punching to head and body.

Potter looked to have scored with cleaner punches but was behind after the first round.

Cain stepped up his workrate in the second, forcing Potter to give ground. Potter was still catching him with good jabs. A right to Cain's jaw stunned him but he rallied well.

Last round both boxers knew it was close and gave their all with first one then the other having the edge and they were trading punches to the last bell with the bout going to Cain on a close points verdict. Potter can be proud of his achievements this season, getting to the final.

This year marks the fourth year of a successful partnership between the Royal Navy and the Amateur Boxing Association of England (ABAE).

It forms an important part of

The Royal Navy's drive to increase awareness of the careers available in the Naval Service.

It also secures Navy involvement at ABAE training camps and the option for the Royal Marines Sports Presentation Team to visit over 700 ABAE-affiliated clubs across England.
