Kingfisher Kevin shows eastern promise

Kevin Dyball, of Kingfisher ABC, won the Eastern Counties Novice championship at under 60kg in Billericay on Friday. He won on points in a very close bout with R Barker of Berry Boys ABC.

It took a while for Dyball to get into his stride and land some telling counter punches which had Barker giving him more respect as one combination stopped the Berry Boy in his tracks. The second round was much closer. Both boxers needed a good final round to win and at times were toe to toe trading blows. However Dyball’s cleaner punches and good defence won the bout by the narrowest of margins by judges countback.

Dyball had reached the final when outpointing R Zdrenka of East Gate ABC at Chigwell.

Kyle Crux of Kingfisher ABC lost on points to M Rice of Chalverdon ABC. Rice started fast, throwing left and right combinations forcing Crux back. In the second round Crux pushed forward landing hurtful punches, forcing Rice to give ground and by the end of the round it was even. Crux had some success in the third but was unable to dominate and lost on points in a close bout.

Debut-making super heavyweight Dan Brown of Kingfisher ABC met Michael Miller of Sudbury ABC over three two-minute rounds at Sudbury. After an even first round the bout came to life in the second as Brown pushed forward and tried to get passed Miller’s long lefts and rights. Midway through the round Brown blocked a combination of straight lefts and rights to force his way inside. A solid left right rocked the Sudbury boxer and the referee gave Miller a standing eight count. Brown doggedly pushed forward and with 30 seconds to go landed a right that had the referee giving Miller another standing eight count.

Miller started the third in determined fashion but the judges decision went to Brown unanimously.

Kingfisher Nico Adams met Richard Ogunwdoi of Berry Boys ABC. Adams scored consistently throughout the first round. In the second Ogunwdoi found his range with a straight right that caught Adams increasingly. The final round saw Adams score with some good combination work. However with only seconds to go Adams failed to evade a strong right, forcing the referee to stop the bout.
