Local amateur boxing coach Tyrone Harold of the Kingfisher Amateur Boxing Club was recently invited by England Boxing, the national governing body for amateur boxing in England, to attend an international coaching course being held by AIBA, the world governing body.

Following a tough week at the Welsh National Sporting Centre of Excellence in Cardiff, the local coach from Great Yarmouth was awarded his international coaching qualification.

The AIBA One Star qualification is currently held worldwide by some 1,000 amateur coaches and enables the coach to participate and work with athletes at an international level. Tyrone has been an amateur boxing coach at the Kingfishers in Great Yarmouth for more than 25 years and has also been an England Team Manager for 10 years during which time he has taken charge of numerous international competitions.

The local sports coach said: “The Kingfisher ABC and grass roots amateur boxing has always been my priority over the years and remains so, however, when I got the chance to broaden my horizons and expand on my coaching knowledge, I was really excited. I have gained some very valuable techniques and boxing strategies as a result of attending the course along with numerous contacts which will only serve to enhance our local club.

“I am extremely proud to be the first boxing coach in Norfolk to achieve this accolade and will look forward to working at a National level .

The Kingfisher Club are set to bring amateur boxing back to the Hippodrome tomorrow for the first time in 50 years when they will hold an afternoon of high-class amateur boxing.

The show will see the best of the Kingfishers compete alongside talent from across the Eastern Counties. The show will also host the Eastern Counties Junior Championships. Doors open at 3.30pm with the boxing starting at 4pm and tickets can be purchased at the Hippodrome box office in advance or on the day.

The family show is priced to attract families at £10 for adults and £5 for children and gives everyone the chance to attend a show hosted by the only National Governing Body affiliated Amateur Boxing Club in the town.
