BEN Savva of Kingfish ABC met Carl Allen of Eastgate ABC over three three-minute rounds in the eastern counties final.

Savva looked confident in the first round with sharp jabs and long left hook counters. Towards the end of the round Savva stepped in with a right hand but received a right counter to his nose, causing a cut. The referee decided after examination that Savva was fit to box on.

The second round saw Allen use all his 70-bout experience to try and pressurise Savva to little effect.

The final round saw both boxers came out to win. Savva was the stronger of the two, scoring with powerful left hooks and right-hand counters to win by 15 points over the two-times Eastern counties champion.

But due to the nature of the cut to Savva's nose he was withdrawn from the next round of the contest that was due to take place six days later.

Paulius Maciulevicius of Kingfisher ABC met Neil Henderson of Reading ABC in the quarter-finals of the Junior ABA Championships Class Six under 75kg.

Maciulevicius boxed well against the shorter, stockier Henderson. From the first round Maciulevicius worked hard to cut down the ring and tried to draw Henderson onto his left hook while still scoring well with his left jab and right cross to the head. This was the pattern for the rest of the bout and ultimately gave Maciulevicius victory over the experienced former national U20 bout champion.

Cain Brunning of Kingfisher ABC met George Kean of Times ABC in the junior ABA championship quarter-finals.

In a hard-fought bout Brunning won a majority decision over Kean and is still the only person to beat this experienced boxer. At times standing toe to toe, Brunning scored well infighting and then pulled away and scored some good shoots at long range. A good win for Brunning which was also awarded with the bout of the night.

Cain Brunning of Kingfisher ABC met Nathan Cummings-snow of Blanford ABC in the semi-finals of the junior ABA under 63kg.

Brunning stopped his opponent in the first minute of the first round with a perfectly-timed left cross counter. It gave Brunning the first stoppage of his career and also a place in the final against Mark Heffon of Broarshaw Police ABC.

Maciulevicius met Joe Wilcox of Lydney ABC in the Junior ABA Championships under 75kg semi-finals.

Maciulevicius came in to the bout as the underdog and had to work hard against the more experienced, taller opponent.

Maciulevicius came on strong against last year's semi-finalist, cutting the ring down he drove his opponent back with good counters to head and body and won the first two rounds comfortably.

In the third round Wilcox landed a right hand that cut Maciulevicius' nose. Increasing his work rate he scored with straight long-range lefts and rights to win the third round.

Going into the fourth and final round Maciulevicius was told by his corner to press home his attack with body shots then to switch to his opponent head. This he did to good effect despite continued pressure from Wilcox and gained a unanimous points decision to go through to the final against Callum Cotton of Parsons Cross ABC.
