IN line with their policy of developing rugby in the area, Lowestoft & Yarmouth Rugby Club have opened discussions with Tongan international Dave Tiueti.

He has 21 International caps to his name and he has made over 50 Celtic League appearances with Neath-based Ospreys. He has also played his rugby with top Italian side Viadana.

L&Y are hopeful that Tiueti will be joining them not only as rugby development officer, but also as a player who will bring much-needed experience to a team that has recently gained promotion to the London League 2.

Junior section chairman Jerry Stone is excited by the prospect and said: “This is a great opportunity for junior rugby in the area. We are making plans for Dave to assist us in building on the successful community work that the club is already carrying out in local schools.

“We are also planning to talk to Leicester and Northampton about developing L&Y as a satellite Centre of Excellence for Rugby.

“Dave has a good deal of experience in spotting potential elite players and we will also be looking at athletes from other sports for that potential.

“Rugby is an excellent sport for the improvement of young people building on the core values of sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, enjoyment and respect.

Director of rugby at L&Y, Scott Nelson, is also looking forward and commented: “For Dave to join us would be a tremendous boost for the senior side as his experience will be invaluable as we go forward in London League 2.

“Players of his ability do not become available often in this part of the world so we are very keen to secure his services.”
