For the first 40 minutes on Saturday L&Y looked to be still suffering from a collective hangover from last week's EDF Energy Vase semi-final in Cornwall. But they ended up emphatically clinching the Eastern Counties Division One championship with three games to spare.

A lack-lustre first half produced only eight points, from a Mark Thomas pushover try and a Matt Howell penalty. But with some positional changes L&Y gave the crowd a show of their power in a second half that was totally dominated by the their forwards and controlled by player-coach Scott Nelson in the backs.

It wasn't long before Thomas completed his hat-trick from the No 8 slot as the forwards pushed the home side back at will. Shaun Woodhouse was next on the scoresheet as his strength saw him power over between the posts. Howell converted. Soon after, Thomas got his fourth with Howell again converting.

Changes to personel saw an injured Kris Nelson replaced by young Steve Adams in ther centre and Simon Coleman move into the 2nd row to replace Tim Fenn. Graeme Newton took over from Wayne Nixon in the front row.

Scott Nelson was next on the score sheet as he danced through the whole of the Woodbridge defence to touch down. The final try came from Thomas again as he touched down at the back of a rampant scrum for his fifth. Lewis Davey stepped up to claim the coversion.
