Ladies B take South League title

Acle Ladies B team have won the South League with two games left to play one, of which was on Monday. A journey to play Yarmouth was disappointing, losing on all rinks and only the second game they have lost all season.
Ladies A needed to be on form against the league leaders. Andrea Morton, Gwyn Xuereb and Mel Haylett won 14-7, Lynne Cannell, Elaine Cole and captain Geraldine Reeve won 17-13, Barbara Meek’s block lost 11-13 and Jenny Kirby’s block lost 10-16. Result 52-49 and 6-2 points.
The brilliant win kept them in touch and they needed another win at home to Woodlands. Jenny Ramsbottom, Edna Land and Geraldine Reeve won 22-10, Marie Barker, Andrea Morton and Barbara Meeks won 27-6, Margaret Arnold, Brenda Cole and Mel Haylett drew 16-16 and Jenny Kirby’s block lost 13-14. Result 78-56 and 6.5-1.5 points.
At home to Pentney A, Mens B were hoping to upset the formbook. Adam Carter, Andrew Flynn, John Harris and Wyn Willimott won 33-9, Brian Kirby, Arthur Joliffe, Bill Downie and Brian Grint won 26-15, John Marshall, Ryan Garman, Paul Webb and Barney Wymer won 24-16 and Josh Baxter’s rink lost 20-21. Result 103-60 and 6-1 points.
Away to Roundwood the Mens C were looking to continue their top form. Barry McGrath, Colin Giles, Ken Scott Greenard and Alan Kendall won 28-12, Richard Pope, Colin Starkings, Peter Evans and Gordon Ives won 29-19, Richrd Hayton, Derrick Willgress, Brian Hearn and Mick Askham won 26-18 and Jeff Chedwidden, Mick Crow, David Airey and Alan Jones won 21-8. Result 104-57 and all seven points.
The A team had a tricky visit to Lynnsport and had a one-shot defeat 82-81 and 4-3 on points. Will Pitt, Matty Sparrow, Simon Elliott and Danny Ramsbottom ran out 20-9 victors. Mark Elliott, Geoff Ramsbottom, Graham Punchard and Jason Roope were 25-21 victors, David Cole, Danny Mills, Daniel Noble and Ian Wones won 21-20 and Jim Fruin, John Sparrow, Tony Dunton and George Tubby lost 32-15 to the strong rink skipped by Steve Winter. 9-1 down they got back to 9-7 only to lose a six and five on the next two ends. Two more large ends dropped later in the game saw them soundly beaten.
