ACLE United are within one point of Anglian Combination championship leaders Sheringham but have played two games more.

On Saturday, Acle met AFC Norwich and won 1-0 after a torrid 90 minutes that saw the visitors play with 10 men behind the ball and use long-ball tactics.

Louis Holsworth volleyed home a cross from captain Warren Nicholls late in the game.

Crosbie had missed a half-chance before Daniel Foreman, a revelation in the team all season, had rescued his side and attacked the AFC's right side with a long mazy run deep into the visiting half, only to see his centre scrambled away.

The visitors' tactics played into Acle hands. They used keeper Scott Foreman virtually as a sweeper behind the impressive back four. But, for all their pressure, Acle couldn't find a way through until the 83rd minute when Holsworth scored the only goal of the game with a volley, excellently controlled and finished.

On Tuesday, Acle visited Wroxham Reserves and came away with a hard-fought point from a 0-0 draw against a side with some experienced players on show whose play made a mockery of their league position.

Acle threw everything except the proverbial kitchen sink at their hosts but they couldn't achieve the breakthrough their attacking football deserved.

There was another immaculate display by centre-back Daniel Foreman. But Ritchie Fruin received a bad injury to his shoulder competing with Sexton for a high ball and falling badly. All at Acle United wish him a speedy recovery.
