Gorleston were once again unable to get past the first qualifying round of the FA Cup.

The Greens took the lead in the replay through a Craig Lewis penalty after Kevin Howes was upended in the box.

Northampton equalised before Gorleston re-took the lead following a goalmouth scramble from a Lewis corner, possibly an own goal.

With just seven minutes remaining Northampton took the lead and kept it till the end, giving Gorleston a long, late, dejected journey home.

A LATE Eddie Thompson goal secured the Greens an FA cup replay.

Thompson scored six minutes into extra time to secure a well deserved draw at the end of Saturday's hotly-contested FA cup tie at Emerald Park.

Northampton started the stronger and, with the wind behind them, put Gorleston under severe pressure from the off.

Julian Anger shot wide from close range when he should have scored, then a 25-yard free kick was deflected wide.

The Millers had a series of corners, but the Greens managed to repel their attacks.

Gorleston's first foray into the box came after 15 minutes when Eddie Thompson nodded the ball back to Neil Hurren, whose flick-header went wide.

Four minutes later an almost identical situation saw Thompson head the ball back across goal from a corner, agonisingly past the far post.

Just when it seemed Gorleston were getting on top, a poor 25th minute kick near the touchline from debutant keeper Rob Hill fell to Kevin Slinn who hit it straight back into the empty net.

Seven minutes later Ashley Bradshaw found himself clear of the Greens' defence, slid the ball past the advancing keeper - but also wide of the post.

Anger then had a shot well saved after Gorleston struggled to clear the ball.

Again the home side rallied and ended the half on the front foot.

The Greens began the second half better, playing with more tempo and better passing.

Twice Hurren broke into the box in wide positions, but was unable to find teamates.

It was the final third where the Greens were falling short, with Peter Smith in the Northampton goal not troubled.

Hurren had a header go over and then Adam Mills fired well over from a free-kick.

Northampton left back Bobby Leah, who had been booked minutes earlier for kicking the ball away, repeated the offence and referee Alan Dale had no choice but to send him off.

Two minutes from the end of normal time a tackle in front of the benches caused a melee which saw both managers banished to the stands after lengthy consultation between referee and linesman.

The Greens continued to pile on the pressure, winning a corner six minutes into stoppage time.

With everybody pushed forward, including the keeper, Eddie Thompson rose at the far post to head in a deserved equaliser and set up the Tuesday night trip to Northampton.
