There was plenty to cheer about at Gorleston Cliffs parkrun this week.

First was the announcement that, for the first time, there were more women than men taking part.

Secondly there was the celebration of International Parkrun Day, it being 13 years since the first ever trial at Bushy Park, London took place. At Gorleston they ran off to the strains of “Happy birthday to us”.

Gorleston Cliffs parkrun is now eight-and-a-half years old and was 13th in the parkrun portfolio. This week was the 442nd event, with no Saturday ever having being missed.

Reaching milestone status were Samantha O’Hara (50), Shawn Mason (100) and Graham Roberts and Graham Sampson (250). There were 34 newcomers and 50 others recorded new bests. Stars amongst these were Neil Bunnage on his 123rd run and Laurie Woods on his 199th. Fastest man was a returning Kyle Ella and fastest woman was Amelia Webber.
