Caister 0 Norwich CEYMS 2

Top billing of the day in the Anglian Combination Division One paired Caister at home to league leaders Norwich CEYMS.

Before the game both sides received awarded with belated Team of the Month awards showing that the form of both sides has been excellent.

Caister were the strongest of the sides in the first half and looked to capitalise on home advantage right from the first whistle.

They camped out in CEYMS half for long periods reducing the visitors to chances from set-plays.

Danny Heller had looked like he had given Caister the lead on 15 minutes, his shot from 12 yards out cannoned off the cross bar and straight down but not over the line before the CEYMS keeper gladly gathered the ball up. Kieran Hack missed two gilt-edged chances when well placed. Then from Garrett Ward’s cross Tom Rowley’s header skimmed the upright

On 50 minutes CEYMS took the lead when the league’s top scorer Tom Amis, who has now scored 23 times, took the ball on his chest 18 yards out on the corner of Caister’s penalty box, in one motion he turner Barrett who was too tight and proceeded to volley a dipping shot into the far corner past the despairing Hollis.

CEYMS went on to enjoy a period of prolonged pressure on Caister’s goal from this point onwards and Tom Amis was giving the Caister back line a torrid time. Half-chances fell for Hack and Rowley as they went on the hunt for a deserved equaliser.

Instead however it was CEYMS that scored again next to effectively kill the game off as their substitute arrived at the far post after a good move to convincingly place home a good finish.

Given the clear-cut missed chances in the first half Caister should look at this as a missed opportunity.

This was Caister’s first home defeat of the season at Fortress Allendale and the first time they have failed to score in all competitions.
