Great Yarmouth and District Football League

Norfolk Primary Cup first round action was the main focus for the second division clubs.

Norfolk and Chance played against the Lowestoft second division leaders Ellingham with only 10 men and found themselves 2-0 down after half an hour. However, Chance fought back to lead 3-2, but can thank Ben Smethurst in goal for some top-drawer saves on at least five occasions. However, Ellingham struck at the death to take it to extra time and the 10 men of Chance could not hold on, losing 5-3.

Bohemians produced a fine display to see off Bradenham Wanderers 5-0, with a hat-trick for Matthew Bowles. Feathers on the Mag bowed out 2-0 against Dyers Arms, while at Ormesby Carpathians lost by the odd goal of seven against Splitz.

MK United Reserves produced a fine display at Pentney with a 5-0 win, with four for Ian Barnes. South Yarmouth won 3-0 at Burnham Market, and Prostar Windows took Methwold to a replay, which will take place on Saturday at Halvergate.

Gorleston Wanderers lost 3-1 at Walsingham, while Caister A bowed out 3-2 at home to Hethersett. Paperclip lost 2-0 at Thurton and Ashby.

In Division Two, GY United had a chance to take over at the top, but lost 3-2 at Martham A.

Division One action saw MK United defeat Lacons Arms 4-1 in a game that both sides wanted to win to pressurise the champions.

Meanwhile Catfield kept their

two-point lead at the top as they beat GY International 6-1, but did lose Darren Lamb to another leg break and the league wishes him a speedy recovery.

Albion are two points below them, after coming from behind to beat GY Peelers 2-1 at Mill Lane. Reedham, who defeated Hemsby Reserves 5-1, are a further point back, while Shrublands collected their first points of the season in beating Tramways 2-1, with a late winner by Arren Howarth.

This week sees one Norfolk Primary Cup replay, while all games on the Beaconsfield and Mill Lane are called off due to hard pitches. The league has done all it can to find alternatives on village pitches, but some games have had to be called off.
