Leagues set for action

PUBLISHED: 11:54 06 January 2011

The Great Yarmouth & District Football League finally restarts after the enforced weather and Christmas break. Belton face their biggest game of the season to date as they search for a place in the semi-finals of the Norfolk Primary Cup when they play one of the favourites, Diss Town A.

Belton have home advantage, so any support would be welcome at Burgh Castle.

The two divisional cups are in the group stages as semi-finalists are sought for both competitions.

All clubs have now been emailed their fixtures until the end of February by the secretary. However, if they are unsure they should not hesitate to contact the league.

The dates for the league’s four cup finals are – HA Holmes Division One League Cup final: Wednesday, April 6, 7.45pm, Wellesley; Burgess Division Two Cup final: Wednesday, April 13, 7.45pm, Wellesley; Wiltshire Cup final: Easter Monday, April 25, 10.30am, Wellesley; Percy Nockolds Trophy: Wednesday, April 27, 6.30pm, Halvergate.

All results will be read out by Gary Button at the Beach at 97.4 FM at 5.45pm on Saturdays.

The league has learned that one of its best and top-serving referees will be leaving after tomorrow to live and work in Devon.

Malcolm Hubbard has officiated in the league for almost 30 years and in that time has refereed all of the league’s cup finals and is a very respected official. The league wishes him all the best for the future.
