Is Lady Luck finally shining on Bryan Gunn?

The Canaries manager certainly had a slice of good fortune at the weekend as results generally went City's way - just as they did in midweek.

It wasn't ideal - City aren't operating in an ideal world at the moment as they stare relegation to League One in the face.

But it was certainly more helpful than harmful - and a trio of draws for the major players in the relegation mix leave City knowing exactly where they stand going into tonight's sell-out Carrow Road clash against promotion-chasing Reading.

A win would take City out of the drop zone and drop Barnsley in it - but only on goal difference, with Nottingham Forest a point ahead and Plymouth two.

That would mean a final day win at Charlton would guarantee safety - even if they lose they could stay up.

But anything else tonight, and City would need to win at Charlton to even stand a chance of avoiding the drop.

Forest will feel they're favourites because they play Southampton, whose relegation was confirmed on Saturday, but the picture is complicated because Plymouth face Barnsley at Home Park.

As far as Gunn is concerned, there is only one option, but he accepts that fortune may be favouring him after Barnsley, for the second time in a week, were denied by a late equaliser, and Forest and Plymouth were held at Blackpool and Plymouth respectively.

“We will have to take what's going for us on the night,” he said.

“Decisions will go for us and against us, we have to accept that and we have to get on with the job in hand and hope that we do have that element of Lady Luck that might be following us about at the moment.

“If three points can be gained on Monday night that will give us the best chance of fighting and scratching and biting on the last day of the season against Charlton.”

The weekend results saw Blackpool and Derby guarantee their Championship status for at least another season, although Birmingham's home defeat by Preston means Reading are still in with a shout of automatic promotion so won't be easing up at Carrow Road tonight.
