Kickboxing: Three Lions fighter Cameron McGarrigle, 15, was on England duty last weekend in an England v Ireland unternational full-contact tournament in Waterford, Ireland.

Cameron took on tough, experienced Irish lad Ross McCarthy from Kilkenny. Cameron took the first round with his slick punches on the back foot but was more aggressive in the second and third, nearly stopping the Irish lad in the third round with a barrage of punches that had the Irish lad hanging on.

Cameron took the bout on points and the England team won the tournament 3-1.

Kelsea Carroll, 13, was matched against Ireland’s Tara McGinnitty, but McGinnitty failed to make the weight, and so Carroll did a skills bout and looked decent.

Coach Dave Munro said: “Cameron started coming down with a sore throat and flu-like symptoms when we got to Ireland, but insisted on fighting and put on a great performance. I’m sure if he’d been 100 per cent he would have stopped the Irish lad.”

Championship kickboxing returns to the Ocean Room next weekend (Sunday, December 5) with world champion Bin Tyler in action along with other local fighters Jack Docherty, Cam McGarrigle, Arron Monson, Stu Meredith, Nicky McHugh, Kelsea Carroll, Ben Mitchell, Josh Allen, Conor Judge, Charlotte Broom, Remy Sayer, Carlos Regini-Moran and Luca McComb.

There will be three title bouts on the show and tickets are available at the usual outlets.
