Lowestoft Railway’s men’s national two wood team recorded an excellent 49-16 win against a good Downham Market side.

Both Railway rinks never gave their opponents a look in and with nine ends still to play the visitors shook hands, giving Railway a 49-16 victory.

Railway have now secured a place in the last 32 in the country and the Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk area semi-final and are only two wins away from the national finals held at Leamington Spa in August.

Railway Ladies secured a second victory in two weeks over local opponents Sparrows Nest and Oulton Broad. This will see them in two semi-finals of the counties two ladies team competitions. They must win three out of the five games to progress to the area final.

The other semi-final is in the Hadliegh Cup, where Railway must travel to Margaret Catchpole and Holywells in Ipswich. After winning against the Sparrows Nest by 11 shots plus previously knocking out the five times champions Bramford, Railway are hopeful of winning through to at least one final.

Railway Gold continued their successful run with a win at Thurlton. Top rink for Railway was Jarvis, Wilkinson and Curtis winning 27-18, giving Railway a overall 5.5-0.5 win.

Oulton Broad played Beccles Town A in the Benacre League and lost 44-102 (1-6) to a strong team. Broad’s only point came from R and R Turner who won 19-11.

In the Bowls England League Broad played at Wenhaston and lost on all rinks 42-95 (0-7).

Playing at Blundeston in the Lothingland League Broad lost a close game 35-36 but Blundeston drew away beating Broad 82-66 (6-1). Broad’s only winners were R and R Turner, M Betts 19-10.

In the Benacre League Wavaney BC defeated Lowestoft Railway 6-1. There was another 6-1 win over Gorleston Cliffs in the Lothingland League with good block win of 27-5 for P Armes, P Denny and C Seaman. This was followed by a 7-0 win against Kensington Gardens in the Bowls England triples. Best block of 25-14 was P Armes, G Juggins and S Martin. Next came a 5-1 win in the Sunshine League against Bradwell Ash. In the Bird League a 28-4 win took Robin to the top of the league. The week was completed with victory over Sparrows Nest in the Humphrey Cup.
