Lowestoft Town put in a good fight before sliding to a fourth straight defeat in Division One of the Norfolk Alliance on Saturday.

Town ended up losing a hard-fought game against Vauxhall Mallards A by just 12 runs after a brave attempt to chase down a total of 237-4.

Tyler Murphy (74), Troy Allan (59) and Steve Goldsmith (49 not out) were the main contributors for Mallards, with the latter hitting five sixes. Lowestoft finished on 225-9, thanks largely to the efforts of Nathan Garrod (71) and Peter Mitchell (62).

Lowestoft A were beaten by nine wickets by a strong Hockwold side. The hosts were bowled out for 140, with in-form Aryn Nair making 75, and could do little as the visitors got home for the loss of just one wicket in the 23rd over. Opener Joel Gilmore finished unbeaten on 105.

Lowestoft continue their quest for a first win of the season when they host Stow tomorrow while the seconds are at Norwich B.
