Broadland-Great Yarmouth Rugby Club have been honoured by being granted full club accreditation from the sport’s governing body the Rugby Football Union.
Rugby development officer Penny Chapman presented the accreditation certificates for both the Senior Section as well as the Youth and Mini section.
The club has spent the last 12 months working towards full accreditation. This was achieved through the senior section of the club demonstrating a commitment to retaining and developing its players, recruiting new players. Accreditation also focused on the club success in the recruitment and retention of high-quality coaches, volunteers and referees.
The club had to provide evidence that it had appropriate management procedures in place for its facilities, and that the management and governance structure of the club was efficient and effective, as well as having active and strong links with the local community. Finally the club met the core values of rugby which are teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship.
The Youth and Mini Section of the club were reviewed by the RFU and demonstrated that the Youth and Mini section operated and is committed to providing a safe, fun and enjoyable rugby union playing environment for young people.
The club was founded in 1983 just off the A12 at Cobholm playing fields, Great Yarmouth and next year celebrates its 30th anniversary.
Club president Geoff Hawks said: I am really pleased with how the club has pulled together to ensure everything was in place for our application for full accreditation. It is fantastic news to have this awarded by the RFU.”
Club chairman Asa Morrison said: “This is a great accolade for the club and really shows how far, we have come as a club over the last few years. We are pleased to be playing our part in improving the overall offer for sport in Great Yarmouth.”
Youth chairman Russ Clarke commented: “This is great news for us.
“It is really important that parents and young players coming to our club know we are accredited by the RFU, it gives them peace of mind that they know we are doing things right.”
