GOLF: Great Yarmouth and Caister Golf Club captain John Tweed chose the hottest day of the year to take on his sponsored golf marathon on Monday.

Starting at 4am, accompanied by the first of his support crew, he teed off from the first and continued without a break until just before 9pm.

In all he completed 144 holes (eight rounds of golf) returning a score of 744 shots. He was supported in stages throughout the day by 12 willing members who marked his score card and kept him fed and watered during the extreme temperatures.

This great effort has raised in excess of 2,000 for his chosen charities. Thanks went to all his sponsors. He is pictured with his score cards of the rounds.

He was back on the course at Rookery Park on Wednesday playing in a seniors’ match, followed by a Norfolk & Suffolk League match on Thursday – none the worst for his marathon efforts.
