Pupils at Woodlands Primary have worked hard over the winter weeks to train for the marathon. Year One pupils have been building up their stamina by increasing their distance and speed running each week in PE lessons, with the goal of being part of a team that runs the full marathon.

The end result was that pupils each ran at their own sustained pace for 700m, the school cross country route. This was then accumulated with the 60 pupils in the year group to total the distance of a full marathon (42.195 kilometres or 26.2 miles).

The pupils enjoyed learning about the various muscles used and the effects of exercise on the body, whilst also improving their stamina. Each pupil received a certificate for their efforts.
