Bradwell BC

On Saturday, members played the annual ladies v gents match. The club captain declared it a draw as each side won on three rinks.

Bradwell's club singles tournament was held on Monday. This year 30 members took part and there will be new names on the trophies.

Terry Payne won the main competition, beating George Coxsey by only four shots in their well-matched final. The contest for the Subsidiary Cup was even closer. Frank Hatton won with one shot on the last end, making Jim Malcolm runner-up.

Bradwell marks the achievement of Dahlia Macdonald, Anne Seddon and Jean Fagan in reaching the finals of the prestigious EBA Benevolent Triples Ladies' Competition.

From the quarter-final Jean took the place of Shirley Lloyd who, after sterling play to that stage had to stand down. In a repeat of last year's result, the Bradwell triple were beaten in the final. Club members congratulate them and wish them third time lucky.

There were two matches in the Sunshine League. At Beccles Insitute, Elizabeth Ward, George Coxsey and Ken Hall could not score for the first five ends but quickly caught up to 21-19. Tom Hall, Keith Baker and Hugh Clifton could not weather five shots against them on the 19th and had to accept 13-17. Anne Baker, Frank Hutton and John Ward clung to a slender lead up to the 16th but had to concede 14-16.

At Sparrow's Nest all rinks played well, losing overall by only 10 shots, 47-57.

In the Lothingland League, at Burrage A, Bradwell recorded some fine scores. Tom Hall, Derek Patterson and Ken Hall finished 36-8; Terry Gallant, Colin Deverill and Joan Bayfield progressed to 27-15; Jean Fagan, Diane Purnell and Jill Boggis, in a game where both triples held and lost the lead several times, won 19-13; Bryan Vincent, Brian Pilgrim and Thelma Bradnum battled to 19 all on the 19th, took three against them on the 20th but lost 21-22.
