Martham 12, Caister Reserves 0

MARTHAM notched up their best win of the season against a sporting Caister Reserve side.

Left winger Adam Betts crossed for Danny Gowing to open the scoring. This was closely followed by top scorer Chris Southern opening his account with his first goal of three after being put through by Simeon Randell.

Next was Adam Betts when his cross/shot beat the stranded keeper. Betts was the provider of the fourth goal, setting up Chris Southern. Then Chris turned provider, passing to fellow strike partner Ian Smith to score the fifth goal.

Smith scored again to take Martham into the break leading 6-0.

Martham continued to take advantage of Caister's defensive frailties and yet another Betts cross was met by Rob Southern to make it seven at the far post. Following a big clearance from keeper Jack Whatmough, Rob Blogg found himself in space and calmly made it eight. Blogg set up Chris Southern for his hat-trick to make it nine.

David Bradford, coming back from injury, came on in the 70th minute and within five minutes had made it 10. Five minutes later, following a pass from Chris Southern, Bradford made it 11. Shortly after that he should have got his hat-trick, but shot straight at the keeper.

It was left to Rob Southern to score the 12th and complete the goal fest, which would have been more but for some fine saves by the Caister keeper.

Praise must also go to the back four who kept Caister's chances to a minimum, especially a very solid performance by Joe Blake in his first outing as centre back for Martham first team. He paired well with Alex Sayer and received great support from Craig Burnett and Sam Welch.

Tomorrow, Martham travel to Cromer Reserves to seek a revenge win over the Crabbers who recently narrowly beat them.
