MEMBERS of the East Coast Black Belt School returned from the recent EKKA East Anglian Championships in Ipswich with another four medals - three bronze and one gold - to add to their already impressive tally for the year.

Taking her second gold medal of the year was Emma Cooke, in the ladies' 6th-4th Kyu section. Cooke gave away points early on in the final, due to excessive contact with her opponent but then came from behind to win, using consecutive reverse punches.

Also representing the club's ladies was Rosie McDonald who, due to a small number of entries in her own category, found herself fighting in the black belt section. McDonald came away with a bronze medal, and gained valuable experience of fighting in a higher category.

Other medal winners were Daniel Mallett, who took third place in the boy's black belt group in his first tournament since gaining his belt, and Connor Hall, who was placed third in the boy's 3rd-1st Kyu fighting. Connor's mother, Kathy Hall, was unplaced in the ladies' fighting.

Howard Thornton, assistant instructor with the East Coast Black Belt School, commented that as always the camaraderie and skill of those taking part ensured that the club was well represented. The medal tally for the year now stands at 12 gold, 13 silver and 20 bronze medals.
