ON Sunday, the O-Yama-Ryu Goshin Jitsu Martial Arts Clubs, hosted their annual charity training seminar. This year it was held at the Church Lane Community Centre in Gorleston.

The day's training schedule was arranged by Shihan Kevin Garwood to showcase a variety of local martial arts clubs and styles.

Every year the club holds a training event aimed at raising some funds for a local worthy charities and this year's event was to raise some funds for the local Gorleston and Great Yarmouth Arthritis Club.

The event featured training sessions taken by instructors Sensei Oliver Garwood in Goshin Jitsu (from Gorleston), Sensei Dave Redding in Tomiki Aikido (from Norwich), Renshi Steve Garrod and Sensei Steve St Clair in Ju Jitsu (from Lowestoft), Sensei Kantu Patel in Shukokai Karate (from Beccles), Sensei Jon Heales in Goshin Karate (from Gorleston).

After a very good day's training Shihan Kevin Garwood thanked all of the students who attended for their hard work during the day.

He also thanked all of the senior instructors and their Uke's for giving their time free of charge and the Church Lane committee for providing the venue free, which meant that all the money raised on the day would go straight to the charity.

All the students were also presented with a certificate of attendance, which were supplied by Dabbrook Services Ltd.

At the end of the day's training the raised £170 which was presented to the chair of the Arthritis Club, George Simmons, by the three youngest students training on the day, who were Jordan Casey, Jake and Brandon Yallop from the Shukokai Karate Club in Beccles.

Mr Simmons, who watched the later training session, said that he was very grateful to receive the club's donation and he had enjoyed watching the students going through their paces.

Shihan Garwood thanked the students who had attended and hoped that they all had enjoyed the day as much as he had.

The Goshin Jitsu Style is a combination style of self-defence techniques which combines elements of Jui Jitsu, Judo, Aikido, and some elements of Karate and groundwork techniques similar to some wrestling styles like Brazilian Jui Jitsu and Russian Sombo.

Shihan Garwood also teaches many styles of Stick Self Defence (often referred to as Canework) and many other types of self defence with simple weapons.
