Shot putter Sophie Mckinna of Great Yarmouth and District Athletics Club (pictured) was again on the podium, at the Aviva England U20 Indoor Champion-ships at the NIA in Birmingham on Saturday.

It was Sophie’s second and final indoor competition of the season and came just a couple of weeks after her fantastic result at the Aviva UK Championships and Trials, where she won a bronze medal.

The championship-best performance at this competition was 14.88 metres and was set back in 1986. Sophie won the championship with a throw of 15.70 metres, which is a new personal best and championship best performance.

It was an incredible throw from Sophie, which in turn placed her at No 2 in all age groups in the UK. It also puts her at No 2 in the 2011 World Youth rankings.

Sophie receives support from the Norfolk Sports and Cultural Foundation.
