GORLESTON achieved a sixth clean sheet in a row, a club record since their move to Emerald Park, writes David Hardy.

Team Bury almost scored in their first attack, whipping a corner across the box that any touch would have turned in.

Gorleston took the lead in the sixth minute. Good work on the right by Gary Williams saw him lay the ball back to Kyle Howell who put in an excellent cross. Liam Bartley climbed well and planted a superb header into the corner of the goal.

Bartley had another volley go over nine minutes later.

Aaron Huggins-Bowers ventured into the box and knocked the ball back. Bartley miscued but the ball fell to Chris Sandford who shot over.

Midway through the half Huggins-Bowers slid Bartley in but he fired into the side netting.

Bartley then headed a Steve Taylor cross over before being denied by goalkeeper Jamie Greygoose when through on goal.

With barely 25 minutes gone Bartley could have had a hat-trick.

Bury's Dan Hitching headed wide from a corner before Sandford shot over.

Jamie Stockeld, who had been pulling the strings in midfield, was forced off with injury shortly before half-time and Gorleston seemed to lose their way slightly as a result.

This was put right at half-time, but Bury almost equalised soon after the interval, Elliot Pride saving with his legs from Andrew Wood.

Eight minutes into the second period Ryan Pearson played the ball in to Bartley at the near post. The keeper appeared to take Bartley's legs away with his arms, but the referee waved away penalty appeals.

Two minutes later Gary Williams hit a terrific shot that moved in the air, forcing the keeper to punch away. Two minutes later Bartley was through again after a defender miscued. He tried to curl a shot in at the far post but the ball didn't bend.

Steve Taylor hit a thunderous

22-yard shot that crashed down off the underside of the bar and

Bartley's follow-up effort was blocked by Ricky Cornish.

Bartley then had a header cleared off the line by Bury sub Jonny Miller before dragging a shot wide.

A deep Ryan Bloomfield cross was caught by the keeper under pressure from Bartley and fell into the goal. The linesman appeared to signal a goal, but the referee gave a free-kick.

Adam Thurtle cleared off the line from a Clark chance as Gorleston began to rue the number of chances they had missed.

Almost immediately any nerves were calmed when a ball was threaded through defenders for Bartley to run on to. This time he slotted his effort into the corner of the goal.

Bartley has now found the net five times in six games for the Greens.

Thurtle was called into action, clearing off the line again after Rhys Henry had rounded Pride. The Gorleston defence is made of strong stuff these days completing a sixth shut out in a row.
