Gorleston FC staged a hugely successful Sailor Brown Memorial Trophy tournament in memory of the club's greatest ever player.

Five clubs took part - Gorleston, Lowestoft, Kirkley & Pakefield, Blofield United and Caister, who stood in at the last minute.

Each team played each other once and the two teams with the best records met in the final which Kirkley & Pakefield won 2-0 against Gorleston.

Sailor's daughter Julie presented the trophies.

Thanks went to all the clubs who took part and created an excellent atmosphere. Martin Sinclair was congratulated on his efforts looking after the Gorleston team on the day (see new manager story on back page, P72.)

Paddy Murphy, long-standing manager of Blofield, was congratulated on his one-club loyalty over the years and Caister were thanked for stepping in late.

Gorleston finished sixth last season in Ridgeons League Division One, not seventh as stated in last week's Mercury.
