THE last Sunday in August is Great Yarmouth Racecourse's family funday.

As always, children aged under 16 are admitted free of charge - while on-the-day admission for adults starts at just 13 (or 11 when tickets are bought in advance online).

The first 1,000 children into the racecourse will also each receive a free goody bag.

There are family entertainments galore - face painting, children's rides, bouncy castle, donkey rides, children's entertainer, competitions with prizes and an adventure playground.

It has become traditional to stage races for children too - and Sunday is no exception - plus there is the annual mascots race, including the course'e very own Freddie Furlong.

There's a 'media' feel to the races, with the Great Yarmouth Mercury and several of its sister newspapers among the race sponsor names.

The first race is at 2pm and, at 3.45pm, it's the Great Yarmouth Mercury Handicap Stakes. The finale is at 5.30pm.

Before the big Sunday fixture, there's good quality racing on Tuesday, August 24. First race is off at 2.30pm.

Admission is 20 to the Premier Enclosure and 13 to the Grandstand and Paddock Enclosure. Online booking is at www.greatyarmouth-racecourse.co.uk where discounts are available in advance. Accompanied children under 16 are always admitted free of charge at Great Yarmouth Racecourse.
