MIKE Derbyshire aims to kickstart the Yarmouth Town revival when the Bloaters entertain unbeaten Brantham in his first home game at the helm tomorrow.

Former Gorleston assistant manager Derbyshire was unveiled as Town’s new boss, replacing Paul Tong, who has been installed as Kirkley and Pakefield manager in the wake of his resignation.

Derbyshire was in the Wellesley technical area with temporary custodian Kevin Smith for Saturdays’ 2-0 defeat by CRC.

He said after the game: ‘This group of lads are prepared to work hard and are committed to each other. What we need to do is get a little bit more support around the player on the ball because we didn’t carry any threat today and it didn’t give us a chance to really challenge the Cambridge goal.

“We defended OK most of the time and we were disciplined most of the time about what we did. Even in the last 20 minutes of the game I’m seeing improvements.

“My expectations for this season are for this club to be sitting comfortably clear of relegation.

“I wanted this job not because there are people who say it’s difficult but because it is a big job. I want to be a part of bringing the club forward and that means getting ourselves clear of trouble which we can do.”

On Tuesday the Bloaters lost 2-0 to Norwich United at Plantation Park and are second from bottom of the table with one pont in seven matches.

On Tuesday Yarmouth travel to league leaders Dereham Town who beat them 2-1 a fortnight ago.
