Great Yarmouth And District Football League

IT was a mixed bag of results for the league in the Norfolk Junior Cup second round with three teams going through and two going out.

The tie of the round pitted the league champions Catfield against King’s Lynn Reserves of the United Counties League on the Beaconsfield after the tie was switched.

The Linnets took the honours with a 3-1 victory in a match that saw the Cats end up with nine men. On this performance King’s Lynn must be considered favourites for the cup.

The other side that bowed out was Yarmouth United after an 8-1 defeat at home to the hugely-experienced Blofield United Reserves, who will also fancy their chances.

It was better news in the other ties. Norfolk n Chance travelled to play Lowestoft and District champions Norton Athletic. The visitors started the stronger, causing problems in the Norton defence.

Norfolk n Chance took the lead with a penalty from Tristian Haudiquet. Ten minutes later it was doubled when Dean Harper slotted into the bottom corner.

The second half saw a much improved performance from Norton with Mark Sutton making a stunning finger-tip save to keep the two-goal lead intact. A late sending-off and a terrific free-kick goal didn’t stop Norfolk n Chance booking their place in the last 32 with a 2-1 win.

Albion joined them by defeating Sprowston Reserves from the Anglian Combination.

The home side produced a superb performance for a 5-0 win that will give them massive confidence for this week’s game with Catfield.

MK United made up the league’s trio in the last 32 by defeating Cromer Town Reserves 3-2 at Burgh Castle.

The first game in this season’s HA Holmes Division One League Cup took place with a game in group two between Great Yarmouth International and Bohemians.

Despite the visitors’ fine start in the league, it was International who collected their first three points in the group with a 3-1 win on Mill Lane.

Division Two looks like being the most competitive section in years. Already every side has lost at least once.

The morning leaders Caister Community Centre entertained second-place Carpathians, who won 2-0 on the Beaconsfield to move top.

This win meant Belton FC could have made ground on the leaders as they travelled to Halvergate to face South Yarmouth. However, the home side did not read the script as they won 3-2.

MK United Reserves moved into third place after a fine 3-0 win over Prostar Windows on Mill Lane as both sides warmed up for their Norfolk Primary Cup ties this week.

Caister Youth earned their first win of the league season as they beat Martham A 4-2 at Martham while Arches moved back into contention with a 5-1 win over Wellington.
