Great Yarmouth Town had mixed luck in two home friendlies, following up a defeat with a narrow win.

With a number of players unavailable the Bloaters named a side which included some new faces for the visit of Norwich CBS, formely Spixworth.

The visitors were in control for most of the game but with changes made at half-time the 0-0 score line was made more realistic as CBS added scored three goals.

The first, an absolute thunderbolt of a free-kick from 25 yards, beat 16-year-old goalkeeper Connor Milligan as it dipped under the bar.

Debutant 17-year-old Miles Palmer was one of only a few bright spots with some excellent contributions. The three other defenders who held out the visitors in the first half also looked solid, Adam Thurtle, Kyle Howell and Alex Armes.

The Bloaters then welcomed Stalham Town to Barnard Bridge in midweek. The strong wind coupled with the short, narrow pitch all contributed to making this a tight contest.

Yarmouth took the lead on 15 minutes after debutant Joel Glover saw his shot rebound to Haydn Davis who tapped into the open net. Stalham were limited to one shot in the first half which was parried by Whatmough and an awaiting striker equalised.

There were changes at the break with goalkeeper Josh Glover making his debut along with twin brother Joel and giving an assured performance.

Aaron Sanders scored a half volley from close range on his debut and put in a good performance to see the Bloaters regain the lead before a driven cross was turned into the his own net by Adam Thurtle.

As time ticked away Sean Perfect won the game with an excellent mazey run and strike into the top corner.

There is no fixture for the Bloaters on Saturday as the club host their first youth tournament at the Wellesley as part of the celebrations to mark the grandstand’s 125th anniversary.

Gorleston suffered a disappointing defeat in their opening pre-season game, going down 4-1 at Swaffham. The Greens went ahead from the penalty spot in the 24th minute but were soon pegged back and went on to concede three more.

Gorleston are in action again this evening when they welcome higher-level Dereham Town to Emerald Park (7.45pm).
